Winter survival skin! E What?

Winter Survival Series
TipZ and TrickZ- Spot Relief for winter dryness . I know that we have all heard about the wonderful world of antioxidants. It has been quite the buzz word in the health/ beauty industry for several years now. Vitamin E is wonderful for the skin and you can find it in many potions and it is an essential in your multi- vitamin. Here is a tip, if you are on the run or traveling keep a couple of your Vitamin E gel capsules with you, not just to ingest but for spot relief. Just poke a small hole into the capsule and the nice oil can be dabbed onto cracked cuticles, dry spots on the face etc. Because it is concentrated it may feel heavy at first but your body recognizes this natural goodness and will soak it up like a sponge!

You can’t beat the portability of vitamin E since it comes in capsule form so, it’s TSA travel friendly.
Vitamin E basically neutralizes free radicals ( takes the ammo away from the bad guys in the air that want to attack your skin, age it and dry it out). Follow up with Vitamin C (Rejuvenates Vitamin E) found in many daily skin care routines and you have a “Super Pairing”, kind of like a firewall for your skin I say, “ Kattails Up”!

Tipz and Trickz-Keep Teeth Bright!

Tipz  and Trickz- Keep your teeth brighter between whitening  treatments (cost effective too no need to take out a loan on your house Lol!). Mix a teaspoon each of apple cider vinegar and baking soda and pour on your tooth brush. The Vinegar’s acidity kills plaque-building germs, and the gritty baking soda scrubs the stains, says Lana Rozenberg, D.D.S. a dentist in New York City. Perfect, before bed ritual.

Yes Vogue!

We all have been thinking the same thing but the media doesn’t get it sometimes! I looked out on my front door and got my issue of Vogue today (yay!)  I’m so pleased to finally see such a beautiful voluptuous woman on the cover (I’m not gay, if you are cool)! It’s been a long time since we celebrated women for all they have to give, and she “Has it all”!

Find out your numbers , BMI http://www.nhlbisupport.com/bmi/ know what a healthy blood pressure is about, mine is 120/80 which is in range as long as I take a pill everyday (I’m not old and you might not be either). This is “Real” knowing  where you are in life gives you power!

Love the makeup artistry on this cover and I love what it stands for to have women be OKImage with their image and how they look because, it is OK! Healthy, well and being the “Real” You, is what I’m talking about!

Take a Brow! (bow) “Steel Deel”

“STEEL DEEL!” You guys know me by now, I’m eyebrow nut! I really am not a fan of shaving them off and painting them back on (plus sounds like too much work for little pay off). Also, Do NOT tweeze them to much, nothing says “I want to look older than my age” then the skinny “sperm” (you know the shape) brow!
Pencil can help to define but PLEASE choose a shade close to your own hair color (of your brow not whatever it is you put on your head). I like to use an angle brush after a pencil to soften down my work and have it look flowing and natural, you can use a matching powder if you use a light hand. Watch out for dark browns that have too much red or trying to matching blacks that look gray or metallic, trust me it will look like a clown punched you in the face!
I found Essence Eyebrow Designer and it works well because the colors are good and it’s not to waxy, and it seems to last all day. It has a little brush at the other end (I still like to use my angle brush but this is great for on the go) to soften the look down. Hey for $1.50 it’s Kattails Up! (we like) www.ulta.com

Bottoms up! Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara.

Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara

I have to talk about Clinique’s Bottom Lash Mascara. Now, I’m one of these people that is always on the quest for the “better” mascara. I have dealt with many from low-end   to high-end price points.

I think I got “roped” into buying this one because I needed to buy something else to acquire the illusive “Free Gift with Purchase” at the counter, like I really need something else to clog up my bottom of the pit makeup drawer!

Now curiosity sets in (most cats and me included) so, I say to myself how can I possibly justify this purchase and it only coats the bottom lashes? This starts digging into my new shoes/purse budget seriously!

Ok so, Free Gift in hand, I head out only to find geez this brush looks like something   “Barbie” would use, you have to be kidding me!

This mascara surprised me because the small brush packs a lot of punch. The size allows you to get into very close in the lash line area where some larger brushes are harder to maneuver. It gives a really smooth application without clumps but it still plumps! It’s not waterproof (for me is ok, I’m not a huge fan of waterproof formulas unless you really need them) but water resistant so it’s fine if you don’t swim or do the “Ugly Cry”. It does wear all day without flaking or smudging.

I found from playing around with it (I can never just do what I am told I have to jack with stuff) that the small brush works well on the top lashes because you can get in tight and place the product very close to your inner lash line, Brilliant! (I still like to coat my top lashes with a thicker formula mascara if I can especially at night). If you use it vertically on your outer lashes it pops and finishes off everything really nicely, it looks way more polished, worth a try!

The price is around $10.00 www.clinique.com  but I think it’s worth the splurge because it lasts 3-4 months of use and it is a quality formula. Kattails UP! (We like)

Rock Your Hair Big Hair Rocks Shampoo and Conditioner

Rock Your Hair for Valentine’s Day!

If you are anything like me, thin fine limp hair has been that frustrating part of life, especially if I want to style it for a special occasion like Valentine’s Day. Enter Celebrity stylist Michael O’Rourke and his professional hair product line called “Rock Your Hair”. I have tried many products with many promises but finally there is a product that does what it says it will without drying out the hair like so many others. That is because this is formulated with chemically stressed out hair in mind. It is color safe, contains no parabens  (waxes or preservatives) that coat and weigh the hair down and is Sulfate free, (lathering agents, that dry hair and strip color). So, really this product is fairly pure and is great for any type or texture of hair that you want to rock out!

Michael O’ Rourke has had his finger on the pulse of Style, Design and Fashion for years and has received numerous awards in his field. I love the fun, easy to use,” Hot Pink” packaging with his signature crystal heart  you can’t miss it on the shelf and is true to the 80’s vibe of hair fashion. “It’s been five years of straight hair and it’s time to bring back BIG, BOLD, ROCKING HAIR!” says Michael.

This line is usually found in salons but you can check them out at www.rockyourhair.com and find a salon or location in your area.

Big Hair Rocks Shampoo- 10.5 oz. aprox $17.00

Big Hair Rocks Conditioner – 10.5 oz. aprox $20.00

Spray It Hard Big Volume Hair Spray 10 oz. aprox $22.00

I found various prices on the internet some quite a bit less money than my approximations so, you can check it out for yourself. I believe, to know that what you are buying is beyond the shadow of the doubt, not counterfeit it’s best to go directly to the source www.rockyourhair.com . In this case, you do get what you pay for- a quality performance product that delivers fun, fierce style! I will be rocking mine on Valentine’s Day!

Save Vs. Splurge!

Everyone is getting used to having to tighten our belts lately in our economy but when it comes to our makeup routine we want our bang for our buck! Now, if you are a makeup “Diva” and are used too many designer products, shopping at the drugstore, well, it might be hard to wrap your head around this one. Hey! Everyone can use to save for a rainy day or find other things to spend our hard earned bucks on!

It’s important to realize that there is more to consider than just flashy displays, cosmetic counters and pretty bottles! We want performance and quality. We need to know where to spend our money, and where we might be able to trim.

Concealer: Splurge!

This item is highly pigmented and thicker in formula than most other makeup items and the raw ingredients cost more if you want quality and a natural hue. Poor quality can tend to cake or have an unnatural looking finish or may not blend well because it won’t have enough “slip”. Since the shelf life for concealer is around 2 years (1 if liquid) it can last and give you bang for the buck, Kattails up (we like)! So it’s not really concealing anything if you buy poor quality.

Foundation: Splurge!

Since foundation is full coverage and is spread on a wider area of the face, you want to stick with a quality formula. Designer brands have long known about the pitfalls of low grade ingredients so they tend to avoid them in their formulas. It’s important to avoid any harsh ingredients that can cause or worsen skin problems.  The raw materials that are used to make foundations have a pinky hue to them and to match most skin tones there is a need to add more yellow pigment to the mixture which costs a lot more. If you look at most of the cheaper brands at the drug store you will see a lot of pink hues among the foundation choices (and fewer color choices as well). Things are changing with better technology so you can find a foundation at the drugstore but it might take a lot of looking and trying. Always look for one with SPF if you are not applying one under.

Eyeshadow:  Save

Pigment in eyeshadow plays a big role in how well and long it will wear. It used to be that you had to buy from the Department Store to get better quality but many drugstore brands have come out with high-pigment long wearing formulas. Plus, you don’t want to keep anything around for more than 3-6 months that you use around the eye area because you are using it close to the mucus membranes and you risk infection from using old products that have become outdated and contaminated. Your money needs to go for more often replacement, spending less, which for me equals a new pair of shoes insteadJ!

Eyeliner: Save

Eyeliner: Save

There are tons of eyeliners in the drugstore that perform as well as the pricy brands. Look for the ones that don’t tug or pull on your skin. You will usually find good ones that are sold in the makeup lines that feature high-pigment. Again these need to be tossed after only a few short months (3-6 mos.) because of infection. Plus please sharpen your pencil before every use to insure that you aren’t bringing unwanted bacteria to your eye area (nobody enjoys pink eye!).

Blush: Splurge!

This one is almost a freebie because it has such a long shelf life (1-2 years). You are using this on the lager areas of your face so have the bendability that comes with good quality is very imperative  no one wants to see you have stripes like a zebra on your face. It should look natural and the color should not look like a fake and bake tan!

Lipstick: Save

I know this one, more than likely catches you of guard because it seems like everyone has their favorite lipstick. Really there are so many formulas and color combinations on the market today that it is very easy to find a great lipstick at a great price in the drug store if you look. Plus there are all kinds of finishes, matte, shiny etc.. This was always the makeup artists’ best kept secret because in general they wear better than expensive brands (Shh! Get Out!).

Mascara: Save

We have to consider that mascara has the shortest lifespan of all (3 Mos. Tops). It degrades very quickly due to air exposure and bacteria that lodges.  There are so many in the drug stores that work just a well as the expensive brands, perhaps not a pretty of a tube but we don’t care about that! There are dozens of brushes and formulas to choose from. I tend to stay clear of waterproof types unless you are going swimming because they are harder to remove and I don’t recommend tugging on that delicate skin around the eyes to chisel it off!

So now you know what to think about next time you are shopping for cosmetics and you don’t want to sink your bank account. New shoes here I come 😉
